Tyler to host state championships for USTA
Tyler, Texas (FOX51) — The state championships for USTA Texas Section tennis league team ages 55 and older will be held in Tyler on November 8-10, 2013.
The tournament headquarters will be at Tyler Junior College, with matches also played at the Hollytree Club courts. Matches are free and open to the public.
A total of 57 men’s and women’s teams from all over Texas will be competing for titles and the right to advance to play in the USTA national championship in April 2014 at Surprise, Arizona.
After winning local Northeast Texas leagues, six teams from Tyler and Longview are seeking to beat the winners from 16 other leagues across the state.
Approximately 550 players will compete in team matches that consist of three courts of doubles play. Teams are groups in flights of four and will play each other once in a round robin format starting at 8:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday.
The team with the best group record will advance to the finals on Sunday morning to play the winners of other group play.
