BIG 12 NEWS: Texas Tech kicks off 2013 season at SMU
Tyler, Texas (FOX51) — The Texas Tech Red Raiders and first-year head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, will kick off their 2013 season against SMU, Friday.
As a team in 2012, Tech racked up a total of 4,627 passing yards with former quarterback turned free agent, Seth Doege collecting 4,205 of those yards on his own. Doege ended his senior season completing 70.2 percent of his passes.
Returning junior running back, Kenny Williams, carried the ball 143 times last season for 824 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also had 16 receptions for 163 yards and one touchdown.
With injuries plaguing Tech's projected starting quarterback, sophomore Michael Brewer, Kingsbury could end up starting a true freshman Friday night.
If Brewer is unable to overcome his bad back, it may be difficult for the Red Raiders to reach their full offensive potential.
Tech's first Big 12 game of the season will be Thursday, September 12, against the TCU Horned Frogs.
