Legislature board meeting today to test tea party’s influence in Austin

An obscure state panel meeting in Austin this morning could feel the first salvo by a Texas tea party that says the state needs its fiscal philosophy more than ever with the re-election of President Barack Obama.

It also will be the first test of the state tea party’s influence on the 83rd Legislature, which convenes Jan. 8.

“Yes, but even more than that, it is a test for people who are taking this vote who have their eye on re-election,” JoAnn Fleming said Wednesday of the Legislative Budget Board convening at 10 a.m. today to set the spending limit for the two-year budget lawmakers will write during the coming session.
