Wood County Crime Stoppers is seeking information regarding recent “smash and grab” vehicle burglaries.

The most recent event occurred July 31, 2013, between 4:45 p.m., and 5:45 pm.

The victim parked her car outside East Texas Twister Gymnastics on US Hwy 69 south of Mineola. While the victim and her daughter were inside for a lesson, person(s) unknown smashed the rear driver’s side window. Items taken from the car include two checkbooks, a money bag containing $400, one debit card and four credit cards.

The stolen cards were used a short time later at the Dollar General store in Grand Saline and Wal-Mart at Canton. Authorities are attempting to identify a suspect caught on video surveillance at both places where the stolen cards were used.

It is unknown at this time if last week’s “smash and grab” burglary is related to an identical burglary at East Texas Twisters back on June 26, 2013.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wood County Crime Stoppers at 903.763.CASH (2274) or the Wood County Sheriff’s Office at 903.763.2201. Sheriff Jim Brown would like to caution everyone not to leave valuables in plain sight, even in locked vehicles. The best defense against this kind of thief is to lock all valuables in the trunk when possible or at the very least, hide them from sight.
