Woman violently attacked after catching man siphoning her gas

Lufkin police are investigating a person of interest after a woman was allegedly attacked in Lufkin Monday evening.

At 6:48 p.m., on Monday, a woman reported she had been assaulted by an unknown man who she caught trying to siphon gas from her car in the 700 block of Newsom Avenue.

When the woman approached the thief, he yelled at her, grabbed the woman by her hair and threw her to the ground. He then jumped on top of her, but she was able to kick him, and he ran from the scene.

The bandit is described as a tall black man, who is partially bald, wore black framed glasses, has a flat nose, large ears, has a swollen eye and lip and appeared to be missing his top two middle teeth. Based upon the complainant's description of the assailant, the responding officers identified and interviewed a possible suspect.

The incident was referred for further investigation.
