Woman dies in wreck on Highway 31

UPDATE: Smith County DPS officials have identified the woman killed in Monday morning's wreck near Tyler.

Authorities say Heloise Powell, 55, of Arp, was heading westbound into Tyler on Hwy. 31 East around 7:40 am, when she lost control of her 2001 Nissan truck on the wet road.

Her vehicle ran off the highway and into an embankment.

Powell was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A woman has died in a one-vehicle wreck on Highway 31 East Monday morning.

The wreck happened just before 8:00 am. There were no other victims involved. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to DPS officials, the 57-year-old woman lost control of truck on wet roads and crashed.

The victim has not yet been identified.
