BATON ROUGE, LA — Could former governor Edwin Edwards be thinking of becoming a father again? According to the man himself, that's the plan.
Edwards reportedly made the revelation during a speech made over the weekend after being inducted into the Order of Living Legends Acadian Museum. According to published reports, the former governor, who will be 85 years old tomorrow told everyone who attended the ceremony in Erath that he and his 32 year old wife, Trina, will be trying to have a baby starting in October.
So what do you think about the idea?
People around town had mixed opinions about the news.
"Once you get to a certain age you're limited to certain things you can do with a kid,” Steven Bachaleda, Baton Rouge resident, said. “So at 85 - that's a little old having a kid. But hey, if the man wants to have a kid, why not?"
“It’s hard for a single mom to raise kids on their own,” Claire Ledet, added. “I just don't think that's fair to the child.”
“They’re in love they want to procreate,” David Smith, noted. “Hey, that's what God told us to do, isn't it?”
After the speech Saturday, Trina Edwards is reported to have verified what her husband said is true, though she said she was as surprised as anyone that he chose to announce it Saturday.
