Tyler, Texas (FOX 51) — SATURDAY UPDATE:
A Torndao Watch is in effect until 6PM tonight for the following counties:
Angelina, Cherokee, Harrison, Houston, Marion, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, and Trinity counties.
This morning we are seeing scattered showers and storms across East Texas. Another broken line of showers and storms in the Metroplex will move towards East Texas today and provide even more rain.
The severe weather potential still exists for East Texas as these storms move in. Gusty winds, frequent lightning, and a small chance of an isolated tornado are possible. The severe weather risk is greater in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
So here's my thinking on today:
The cold front will continue to move through Deep East Texas. It could take until the afternoon before the front finally clears our area. Until that happens, our southeastern counties have the chance of seeing strong to severe storms.
Showers and thunderstorms will persist throughout the day. The latest forecast model guidance suggests the storms will not be out of East Texas until after sunset tonight (6pm).
High temperatures were reached in the early morning hours and have fallen into the 40s. I expect afternoon high's to be in the upper 40s to near 60 depending on your location.
Tonight, showers move out and cooler air continues to filter in. Lows tonight will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
The weather has been unseasonable for this time of the year, and here in East Texas, we do have a chance of seeing some severe storms through the next 24 hours. Here is the breakdown:
Friday Night — Early Saturday Morning
Showers and thunderstorms will increase over East Texas and with that comes the threat of severe weather. The big concern tonight will be the damaging wind and tornado threat. Winds today across our area have been light to about 10 miles per hour. This evening, they will begin to pick up. Winds will be even faster at about 5,000 feet and that can lead to some isolated tornadoes tonight.
Temperatures tonight will not fall too much. I am forecasting temperatures in the low 60s, but they will rise during the overnight into Saturday morning.
Saturday Morning — Saturday Afternoon
We will have more heavy showers and thunderstorms across East Texas. The severe weather potential for our area will be during the morning and lasting through the early afternoon. Main threats still will include isolated tornadoes and damaging winds.
As we progress into the afternoon, showers will end from northwest to southeast and temperatures will be falling throughout the day. Winds will be out of the south and switching to the west by the afternoon and evening.
There could be a few lingering showers, but I expect most areas to be drying out. Temperatures will continue to fall during the evening and overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.
