Volunteers wanted to help plant trees Saturday

Friday, January 18, 2013 - 5:43pm

The City of Tyler and Mayor Barbara Bass are seeking volunteers to help plant approximately 100 trees on Tree Tyler Day, Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Residents interested in volunteering are asked to meet at Harvey Convention Center, 2000 W. Front St., at 10 a.m. and enjoy a free breakfast from Einstein’s Bros Bagels before everyone teams up to plant trees at one of four locations throughout Tyler. The first 350 participants will receive a free Tree Tyler shirt.

Locations include Faulkner Park, Lindsey Park, Woldert Park and Three Lakes Parkway. Volunteers are asked to bring their own shovel and gloves.

This is the third year of the Tree Tyler Initiative. Citizens have registered more than 4000 trees that have been planted in the city limits. Tree Tyler Day will give the community the opportunity to come together to work toward reaching the Mayor’s goal of planting 5,000 trees in five years.

The City has already picked out the sites and purchased trees to be planted. The holes for the trees have been dug.
