Volunteers invited to help clean up Teague Park

Wednesday, February 2, 2011 - 12:15pm

TX) Volunteers are invited to help make the Teague Park pond and surrounding area cleaner during the Waterway Cleanup. The annual event begins at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Teague Park, 415 American Legion Blvd. In addition to the normal cleanup activities, the event will feature a visit from the Longview Fire Department Dive Team to assist with the pond cleanup. During the event, the Dive Team will demonstrate water search techniques and display equipment.

According to Community Relations Coordinator Mary Jane Burnett, “The Waterway Cleanup is a great volunteer opportunity for individuals, families, or businesses. Just register and then show up ready to help.”

Cleanup supplies such as trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and litter grabbers will be provided. Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided for working volunteers. Also, Waterway Cleanup patches will be available for any scouts that participate. Volunteers are welcome to bring lawn chairs to use during lunch or while watching the Dive Team demonstration.

The Waterway Cleanup is coordinated by the City of Longview and Keep Longview Beautiful in partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
