Volunteer accused of stealing more than $100K from Shreveport church

A volunteer at a Caddo Parish church was caught allegedly stealing more than $100,000 from the organization.

Evelyn Brown, 63, of Shreveport, is accused of transferring $104,613 from a Broadmoor Christian Church account into another unused church account, then took the money.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office detectives were able to determine Brown, who was a volunteer treasurer at the establishment from January to November, allegedly used the transferred money to write checks to herself.

The church contacted the sheriff’s office after noticing discrepancies in their accounts, according to Sheriff Prator.

Brown was arrested for felony theft and illegal transmission of monetary funds.
