CNN — Former New England Patriots tight end, Aaron Hernandez was arrested at his Massachusetts home by police Wednesday morning.
The Patriots announced their decision to release Hernandez from the team via their official Twitter account shortly after his arrest.
Hernandez was booked at the police station in North Attleborough and then transported to court for arraignment.
Police have been investigating the murder of 27-year old semi-pro football player, Odin Lloyd, an acquaintance of Hernandez. Lloyd also dated the aunt of Hernandez's daughter.
Lloyd was found dead on June 17 less than a mile from Hernandez's home.
Police have searched Hernandez's home twice as part of the investigation.
Reports say the charges are to be released after Hernandez's arraignment later on Wednesday.
To date, there have been 29 NFL players arrested since the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans.
