Former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert told a Longview audience Wednesday that his business background and North Texas support will propel him into a runoff he’ll win among the nine Republicans vying for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison.
“Once that (competition) becomes one-on-one, the world changes an awful lot,” Leppert told about 25 business leaders at the Longview Chamber of Commerce. “In every place besides North Texas, your ‘undecideds’ are just giant.”
Leppert, mayor of Dallas from 2007-11, later spoke at LeTourneau University during a swing through Northeast Texas.
He was slated to speak on his Christian faith at the student body meeting, but in the morning he was asking the chamber members to put faith in his 25 years of business leadership.
