The Lufkin Daily News reports that with a guilty verdict having been handed down by an Angelina County jury in Kimberly Saenz’s capital murder trial last month, U.S. Attorney John Bales held a press conference Monday to acknowledge the “excellent example of the cooperation of multiple agencies of federal state and local law enforcement and prosecution teams in bringing justice to the Lufkin community."
Bales said the trial team had more than 1,600 documents to manage, catalog and understand, and it is his belief that the collective efforts of individuals in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Angelina County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Office of Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the U.S. Health and Human Services Office, the federal Centers for Disease Control, the Federal Drug Administration and the Lufkin Police Department all played “a huge role in the state’s success.
