Update: DPS identifies pilot killed in plane crash near Lake Palestine

The name of the pilot who was killed is Stephen Annis. He was 51 years old and from Huntsville. His family has been notified of his death.


The FAA is en route to the scene and will be tracking the route of the plane, according to the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

A partial number has been recovered for the plane, but it has not yet been released.

A fatality has not been confirmed, according to DPS Trooper Jean Dark.

A witness tells Fox 51 he saw the plane "corkscrew" into the ground.


Update: Fox 51 crews on the scene have confirmed a plane has crashed near Lake Palestine in the Cumberland Ridge neighborhood in Smith County.

The plane appears to be small, according to Smith County sheriff's deputies on the scene.

An ambulance is also at the scene of the crash, which is located in the 15000 block of Treasure Cove in Bullard.
