SMITH COUNTY — KFXK has learned 26-year old Michael Paz, of Kilgore, was the person killed in today's fatal wreck on Highway 31 East.
SMITH COUNTY — According to Smith County Pct. 4 Judge Shamburger, the fatal victim was traveling west on Highway 31 from Kilgore to Tyler. The man was passing a car when he realized he wasn't going to make the pass, so he tried to get back into his lane, but overcorrected and clipped a car, sending him head-on into a Jeep.
Judge Mitch Shamburger pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
Shamburger tells KFXK , this is the third wreck in the last 24 hours on Highway 31 caused by high speeds.
It is unknown if alcohol is involved in the wreck. A toxicology report has been ordered.
The body has been sent to the Rader funeral home in Kilgore.
Eastbound lanes have re-opened.

The victim has been identified as a 26-year old male from Kilgore. His name has not been released.
Witness tell KFXK, one of the drivers caused the wreck by weaving in and out of traffic until colliding head-on with another vehicle.
The vehicles involved are a Jeep and a sedan.
There are serious injuries reported. The jaws of life are being used.
