UPDATE: Skeletal remains identified as missing elderly man

LONGVIEW — On Thursday, Longview Police Officer Bennie Cooks was flagged down by two local fishermen. They told Officer Cooks that they found what they believed to be a human skeleton in a ditch in the 1400 Block of Sabine Street, near Del Roy Street.

Officers determined the body had been there for some time. The remains have been sent for an autopsy and the case remains under investigation. The identity of the person found has not been determined at this time.

According to KTBB, identity found in the man’s pockets indicates the person is an elderly man that has been missing for the past five months.


According to our news partners, The Longview News-Journal, the remains have been determined to be human.

Officials are unsure of the cause of death at this point, but they estimate the remains have been there for several weeks.

They have been sent to an examiner to determine the identity and the cause of death.

Longview police are investigating skeletal remains found in a wooded area.

The remains were found along West Sabine Street near the intersection of Del Roy Lane earlier this afternoon.

It is unknown how long the remains have been there or a cause of death.

Longview police are currently on scene.
