UPDATE: Officials identify jailer and inmates involved in morning wreck

TYLER — UPDATE 10:45 am: Tyler Police have now identified the jailer and inmates involved in Monday's wreck.

Tyler Police esponded to the intersection of W. Gentry and Palace on a collision of a Smith County Sheriff’s vehicle and a GMC Sierra pick-up around 6:27 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2012.

The County vehicle was operated by Joseph Jordan, age 23, who was transporting two inmates identified as Alvin Odom, age 32 and Shannon Wallace, age 33. Jordan was traveling westbound on W. Gentry and was entering the intersection on a solid green light.

The second vehicle was operated by Luis Chavez-Ibarra, Age 27, who was traveling eastbound on W. Gentry who had a solid green light and attempted to turn left onto Palace striking the County vehicle in the intersection.

Jordan, who is employed as a Jailer, and his two passenger inmates were transported to East Texas Medical Center Hospital with minor injuries and released.

Chavez-Ibarra refused any medical treatment and was cited for Failing to Yield Right-of-Way Left Turn.

Update: Authorities now say that a Smith County Sheriff's Department officer and two inmates who were being transported in the vehicle were taken to a Tyler hospital after the wreck.

The inmates helped the injured officer out of the vehicle after the wreck.

There is no word on the extent of their injuries.

At least two people have been transported to area hospitals after a traffic accident in the north westbound lane of West Gentry and Palace in Tyler at about 6:20 am.

One person injured, a 23 year old male, had head lacerations.

Another person involved in the wreck is reported to have been takent to the hospital by private vehicle.

One of the vehicles involved in the wreck is a Smith County Sheriff's jail transport vehicle. A SCSD officer was driving when the wreck happened.

There's no word at this time about injuries, or on what caused the wreck.
