UPDATE: Men injured in shooting involving Cherokee County deputy identified

CHEROKEE COUNTY — UPDATE: Two men have been identified as those injured in the shooting involving a Cherokee County Deputy Sunday evening.

Officials with the Texas Rangers tell KFXK, 20 year old Roel Gallegos from Jacksonville was released from the hospital and booked into the Cherokee County Jail.
18 year old Eric Torres remains in the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The Texas Rangers say the investigation is ongoing, and the evidence in the case has been submitted for analysis.

The Texas Rangers are conducting investigating a shooting involving a Cherokee County Deputy around 11:30pm Sunday night.

Cherokee County Sheriff's officials tell KFXK, the deputy was investigating the reports of gun shots in the area around County Road 3303 and County Road 3304, when he found two people in a vehicle.

The driver quickly sped up, attempting to run over the deputy, who fired at the vehicle.

The deputy was unharmed, but the driver and passenger of the vehicle were transported to local hospitals with injuries.
One was released early Monday morning and arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (the vehicle), and was booked into Cherokee County Jail.

The second remains in the hospital in stable condition with no available information on his release.

The investigation is ongoing.
