Update: Man shot by son in Longview identified

Longview Police have identified the man who was shot by his son Thursday night as Donnie McCray, 51, of Longview.

McCray's 15 year old son is a suspect in the shooting. He fled the scene and has not been located.

According to witnesses, the two were arguing in a bedroom when a single gunshot was heard. They saw the elder McCray come out of the bedroom and say he'd been shot. Police later located a rifle they believe to be the weapon used.

McCray is hospitalized at GSMC with life-threatening injuries.

According to Longview Police, the shooting happened at about 9:15 pm Thursday. The son left the home where the shooting happened in the 200 block of Young Street before authorities arrive. Police are looking for him.
Initial reports indicate that the shooting was accidental.
The father was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he underwent surgery late Thursday. His injuries are said to be serious. There is no word yet on why the shooting occurred, and no names have been released.
