Update: Girl killed in double homicide identified as Pine Tree student
Longview, tx (KETK) — UPDATE: Longview authorities now say that the two bodies found in a Longview duplex yesterday are those of LaToya Reese, 28, and her daughter, 11.
The justice of the peace says the two were victims of a double homicide. The bodies have been sent to Tyler for autopsies.
The 11-year-old has been identified as a Pine Tree ISD student. The school released the following statement to KETK:
The Pine Tree ISD family is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students. The school district's crisis management procedures are in place to help children with their reactions to this tragedy. As part of our crisis management plan, we have provided school counselors to meet with students this morning and throughout the day, in the student's classroom. And counselors will be available throughout the week to help our students, faculty, and staff cope with this terrible tragedy. Parents have been notified through a letter to contact the school should they have questions or concerns about their own son or daughter as they process the news about one of their classmates.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Longview Police Department is at a local residence where two bodies were found Wednesday afternoon.
According to Longview Officer Kristie Bryan, at 3 a.m., police were responding to a welfare check asked for by family members when they made the gruesome discovery at a house on the 100 block of Jester Circle.
Two unidentified bodies were found inside the residence. Their genders have not been released.
Authorities cleared the house until a search warrant was obtained around 5:40 p.m. They are currently investigating the scene.
Bryan could not say whether foul play is suspected or not at this time.
The district attorney and justice of the peace have been called to the scene. Next of kin has not yet been notified.
Officials are expected to continue the investigation into the night.
