Jeff Austin III of Tyler has been appointed to the Texas Transportation Commission, the body that governs the Texas Department of Transportation.

He will fill a seat left vacant by the departure of Chairwoman Deirdre Delisi, who resigned earlier this month to devote more time to Rick Perry's presidential campaign.

Austin is vice chairman of Austin Bank, a community bank headquartered in Jacksonville with offices in 21 cities and 10 counties. It has several branches in the Longview area.

Austin also has been active in regional transportation planning and commerce in East Texas.
