A top football recruit in the East Texas area has made his commitment to play college football at a major BIG 12 university.

Longview defensive tackle, Zaycoven Henderson, announced in a press conference, Monday, he will be heading to The University of Texas upon completion of his senior year.

The 6'1", 300 pound senior announced he will be a Longhorn starting in the 2014 season.

Henderson, a four-star recruit, received offers from the following colleges looking for his talents to add to their defensive lines:

  • Baylor
  • Texas

  • Texas Tech
  • Florida
  • Mississippi
  • Nebraska
  • Oklahoma
  • Oklahoma St.
  • South Carolina
  • SMU
  • TCU
  • Texas A&M

Henderson was a 12-5A first-team selection for the Lobos, having racked up 36 tackles, 13 for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown in eight games during his senior campaign, according to the Longview News-Journal. Henderson also missed the first five games of the 2013 season after a Jones fracture needed surgery.

Henderson also withdrew a commitment to Texas Christian University in September. Henderson told FOX51 earlier in the season he had narrowed his choices down to Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor.

The Longhorns, who lost the BIG 12 Championship game to the Baylor Bears, Saturday, will face the PAC 12 powerhouse Oregon Ducks, Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.
