Three arrested on fighting and drug charges
Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says three people were arrested Sunday morning on fighting and drug charges.
Karen Hattaway Burnell, 49, of Keithville, Matthew Eugene Ahrens, 27, of the 1500 block of Caplis Sligo in Bossier City, and Daisha Marie Benjamin, 31, of Ft. Huachuch, Arizona, were taken into custody after Burnell and Benjamin got into a fight in a back yard in the 600 block of Dauphine.
Bossier Sheriff’s deputies say Burnell initiated a verbal altercation with Benjamin which quickly turned physical. The two struck each other multiple times and threw each other into a fence.
During the course of the investigation, Benjamin told deputies she and Ahrens had been “trading” prescription medications. A pill bottle marked “Cymbalta 30 mg” was found in Benjamin’s purse and twenty-one Clonazepam were found inside the bottle. During a search of Ahrens’ bag, deputies found twenty-eight Clonazepam in a bottle prescribed to Ahrens’ mother.
Burnell, Ahrens and Benjamin were transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked. Burnell was charged with disturbing the peace/fighting and her bond was set at $150. Ahrens was charged with possession of Clonazepam and his bond was set at $5,000. Benjamin was charged with disturbing the peace/fighting and possession of Clonazepam. Her bond was set at $5,150.
