Friday, February 8, 2013 - 12:00pm

Authorities have arrested a third suspect allegedly involved in the robbery of a Tyler convenience store last month.

On Thursday, the Tyler Police Department received a tip on the whereabouts of Ashad Rael Coats, 25, of Tyler. Investigators along with U.S. marshals found and arrested Coats at Town Park Apartments on the 2200 block of WNW Loop 323.

Coats is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity. His bail is set at $100,000.

On January 22, Darryl Earl Daniels Jr., 23, of Tyler, surrendered to authorities on a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity. Daniels was booked into Smith County Jail on a $100,000 bail.

Both men plus a third suspect, Jaqun Jamel Dawson, 17, of Dallas, are accused of attempting to rob the Food Fast on January 16.

Shortly before 5 a.m., on January 16, two of the armed suspects in ski masks approached the store's clerk, who was outside smoking, and demanded money from the register. A customer entered the business during the robbery, and the suspects ran from the back of the store when police were called.

Authorities were able to locate one alleged robber, Dawson, in a nearby wooded area with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg. He was hospitalized following his capture.
