Texas Rangers investigating inmate found hanged in ETX jail cell

Monday, February 11, 2013 - 5:58pm

The Texas Rangers are investigating the Nacogdoches County Jail after an inmate killed himself there Friday night.

On Friday, at around 6 p.m., Rickey Lynn Flanagan, 27, was transported to the jail for a driving while intoxicated charge, according to a Department of Public Safety spokesperson.

When authorities arrived at the jail with Flanagan, he was allegedly extremely intoxicated and was placed into a detoxification cell. When jailers returned about 15 to 16 minutes later, the suspect was found hanging from a partial wall. CPR was conducted on the inmate from the jail to a local hospital, but he did not survive.

Flanagan was pronounced dead at the hospital and his body was sent to Tyler for autopsy.

As in all cases of this nature, the Texas Rangers are looking into the matter.
