LONGVIEW — Longview police officers conducted a tobacco sting in the Longview area to check retailers in regard to Texas tobacco laws.

The stings used teen minors, along with Longview police, who entered stores and tried to buy tobacco products.

Texas law states that it is unlawful for a person to sell a cigarette or tobacco product to someone who is younger than 18. A violation of this statute is punishable as a class C misdemeanor and the fine is over $500.00.

The undercover teams went to 76 Longview area tobacco retailers and of those, 10 sold tobacco to undercover minors.
