State Representative James White files a new bill concerning public schools

Our partners at the Lufkin Daily News reports that State Representative James White filed a bill in the State Legislature earlier this month which would convert low-performing public school campuses into charter schools.

Now he says he has filed for a substitute for the bill, removing the charter school option, following disapproval from the six Angelina County superintendents.

The original House bill stated if a school campus receives an unacceptable performance title for the two preceding school years, parents of the students may sign a petition to convert the school to a charter campus.
