South TX city makes largest synthetic drug bust in its history

It's considered the largest drug seizure of synthetic narcotics in the city of San Juan, but thanks to the San Juan Police those narcotics are now off the street.

The bust took place on Friday, San Juan Police say they were dispatched to the stripes convenience store located at 101 West Nolana in regards to a disturbance in the parking lot. Officers arrived to the scene and were approached by a female who stated that she and her boyfriend had an argument. While at the scene officers were advised that the boyfriend was seen placing what appeared to be a bundle of marijuana in the trunk of a parked car.

The car was searched and 20.4 pounds of marijuana were found. Shortly after the officers located the suspects residence and executed two search warrants and this is what they found:

  • $6100 in cash
  • Glock 27.40 caliber pistol fully with 3 magazines fully loaded
  • 682 packs of bath salts and "Kush" a synthetic marijuana
  • 8.8 ounces of marijuana
  • 2 pounds of bath salts in a large bag

Fernando Rivas was arrested on multiple drug charges as well as weapons violations. He is currently on probation for previous drug charges and remains in county jail.
