lake Cherokee — On Tuesday at around 1:38 a.m. Gregg County deputies were called to Lake Cherokee for an assault.
Anthony Court Phelan, 30, had allegedly cut his father Johnny Phelan, 64, multiple times with an unknown object while he slept.
Anthony Phelan ran from the house when lake patrol arrived at ND-12. A deputy later found and arrested Phelan who was covered in blood on Happy Hollow Drive off Highway 149.
Officials found Johnny Phelan blood-soaked, laying face down with a puncture wound to his back. He was a taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Anthony Phelan has been booked into the Gregg County Jail on a murder charge.
