Smith County Relay for Life location changed due to weather
SMITH COUNTY — Due to expected adverse weather conditions, the Smith County Relay For Life location has been changed.
Relay will now be held on the Tyler Junior College (TJC) campus in the Ornelas HPE Center (the Rec Center), which is located off of 5th Street and Palmer St, across Palmer St. from the parking lot next to the Pat Hartley Field. The event was originally scheduled to be held on the R.E.L. campus.
The Ornelas Center includes a full walking track and Relay campsites will be set up on a large, double-basketball court gymnasium.
The stage will be set up as planned, and nothing about the scheduled program of events has been changed.
Relay will still take place tomorrow from 7:00PM to 7:00AM .
Teams will still be able to hold their fundraisers as scheduled, and all the laps, games, silent auction and entertainment will progress normally.
The Survivor Dinner will still take place as scheduled in the Robert E. Lee High School Cafeteria beginning at 5:30PM. To give survivors time enough to move from Robert E. Lee High School to TJC, the Opening Ceremony may be delayed.
For teams who planned on grilling (gas only, no charcoal), TJC has authorized us to use the large covered area in front of the Ornelas Center to set up grills.
There will be signs clearly indicating where event parking is available, and we ask that everyone leave the lot marked as VIP Parking empty for our survivors who may be arriving from the dinner at the last minute.
The Survivor Dinner will take place as scheduled from 5:30PM-6:45PM at the Robert E. Lee High School Cafeteria.
Relay For Life will take place as scheduled from 7:00PM-7:00AM at its NEW LOCATION--the Ornelas HPE Center on the TJC Campus.
During business hours, the American Cancer Society's Tyler office will be able to assist you with any questions.
