Smith County probation officer charged with injury to a child

A Smith County probation officer accused of injuring a child was arrested Monday morning following a lengthy investigation.

At 10:30 a.m., detectives from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and the Children’s Advocacy Center completed an investigation of the accusation made against the officer.

The suspect, Rachelle Ann Hartgraves, 47, of Whitehouse, was taken into custody at her workplace, the Smith County Adult Probation Department on Elm Street.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, the investigation began in 2012 and was completed Tuesday.

The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Christi Kennedy.

Hartgraves was booked into the Smith County Jail. Her bail is set at $10,000.
