CHAPEL HILL — UPDATE 4:33 P.M. - Smith County authorities say they have found Elsie Young in good condition.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smith County Sheriff's Department is searching for a missing woman in the Chapel Hill area.
The agency received a call shortly before noon on Sunday from a homeowner on Highway 64 East about a woman in only a shirt and underwear. The caller says the woman was yelling gibberish and appeared confused before she left in her car headed east on the highway.
Deputies received a call Monday around 1:50 p.m. from a passerby that saw an abandoned vehicle running at the intersection of County Road 220 and Highway 64 East. Authorities found a driver license for Elsie Menager in the seat. They contacted Michelle Menager and were told it was her mother's, 64-year-old Elsie Aldridge Young.
Menager says she missed a call from her mother around 11 a.m., but did no answer. She has been trying to make contact since and has not been successful.
Witnesses say another vehicle driven by a Hispanic male stopped at the vehicle, a white female then got out of the vehicle and retrieved a purse from the abandoned vehicle.
Elsie Young was last seen at midnight on Saturday. She is described as a white female, 64-year-old, about 5'
8", 150 pounds, grayish hair, wearing a shirt and panties. Her whereabouts are unknown. Family members say she has history of mental instability.
Deputies are currently looking for Young by way of horse, 4-wheeler, and helicopter.
This note was found on Elsie's door.
