Small plane crashes at Gladewater Airport

Gladewater, TX — A small experimental airplane crashed Tuesday morning shortly after takeoff.

It happened at the Gladewater Municipal Airport sometime after 7:00 a.m.

The pilot was attempting to take off from the airport when he lost control on the runway and crashed into a wooded area near the airport.

Officials tell KETK the pilot had just finished construction on the airplane and it was the first time he had flown it.

The pilot was able to walk away from the crash and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The name of the pilot has not been released at this time, but officials at the scene tell KETK the man is in his 60's.

The Federal Aviation Administration will be heading the investigation of the crash.

The Gladewater Municipal Airport is currently closed, and it is unknown when it will reopen.
