Shooter identified in alleged Rusk County hunting accident

On Sunday at approximately 10:00 am, suspect, 54-year-old Rodney Connally of Ft. Worth, was arraigned by Honorable Judge Jerdy Wolverton, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1. Connally was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond is set at $50,000.

The suspect stated while hunting on a lease located in Rusk County, off County Road 4107, thought he shot a deer until he discovered he had shot the victim, 41-year-old Louis N. Conner, Jr. of Overton. The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office was notified when the suspect discovered he had shot Mr. Conner.

Suspect Connally remains in the Rusk County Jail.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit.

Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle stated this investigation will be conducted to the fullest and upon completion will be forwarded to the Rusk County District Attorney’s Office to be presented to a Grand Jury for possible additional charges.
