A sex offender near you may soon be able to take their name off of the list of registered sex offenders.
It's a program meant to clean up those massive lists of registered sex offenders by focusing on tracking the ones that authorities say pose a direct threat to the public.
Later this month, the Council on Sex Offender Treatment will meet to discuss final plans to allow what they call "low-risk" sex offenders to "de-register" if they meet certain requirements like having a clean record and completing sex offender treatment.
With about 100 new names a week being added to the sex offender database, the council says the program is meant to shift the focus of the list to the most dangerous sex offenders.
What do you think about putting these offenders into risk levels and giving these lower risk offenders a break?
