A routine traffic stop by Nacogdoches police officers turned into a large drug seizure early Thursday morning.

According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, at around 3:45 a.m., a patrol unit pulled over a vehicle on the 2800 block of NW Stallings for speeding. During the officer's conversation with the driver, they were nervous and inconsistent with their travel plans. A strong odor of marijuana was also detected.

A probable cause search on the vehicle revealed about 50 pounds of marijuana. Both passengers, Edgar Lopez, 25, of Channelview, and Veronica Hagburg, 21, of Houston, were taken into custody.
