Robert E. Lee student wins James R. Carns Memorial Scholaship

An East Texas student has been selected for the James R. Carns Memorial Scholarship.

Sean M. Koch, a 2013 graduate of Robert E. Lee, will attend Tyler Junior College and was selected by the scholarship committee at at Robert E. Lee.

Rick Carns and his siblings established the fund which was the second endowed scholarship fund within the Tyler ISD Foundation.

James Carns grew up in Tyler, Texas and attended James S. Hogg Middle School and graduated from Tyler High in 1958. After working for several years as a market manager, he graduated from East Texas State University in 1970. Continuing his interest in vocational training, he taught at Texas State Technical Insititute in Waco, Texas.

Rick Carns along with Petty's Irrigation gives the amount of the scholarship so that the interest is invested into the corpus of the fund.
