TYLER — School officials tell KFXK that a student was found with a gun on the campus of Robert E. Lee high school in Tyler.

They say they received an anonymous tip around 12:15 on Thursday that the student had the gun.

The administration confirmed the tip and found the student.

They discovered he was in possession of a rusty, disassembled handgun, and they took him into custody.

No students or faculty were injured in the incident.

School is continuing as normal.

Here is the press release from Robert E. Lee:

Disassembled Weapon Reported on Campus

At approximately 12:15 this afternoon an anonymous tip was reported to the Tyler ISD Police Department that a student was in possession of a weapon on the campus of Robert E. Lee High School.

The administration quickly responded to confirm the tip. The student was immediately located and when it was confirmed that he was in possession of a rusty, disassembled handgun with no ammunition, he was taken into custody.

All students and staff are safe and school is in a normal schedule.

Although we hope we never have these types of instances, this is a great example of how reporting a concern can help keep each other safe. We applaud the efforts of our anonymous caller in communicating this information to school officials.
