Rash of mail thefts strikes rural Rusk County

A rash of mail thefts have occurred throughout much of rural Rusk County.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office is asking people across the county to use caution when sending out mail. Deputies have arrested two thieves so far, but the thefts have not stopped.

Rusk County Sgt. Viki Penny says the bandits are watching for raised red flags on mailboxes, then taking what's inside. The thefts have happened randomly countywide.

When sending payments by mail, authorities recommend contacting the recipient to ensure payments were received or taking mail directly to the post office.

The postal service has been notified and as the investigation continues, the citizens of Rusk County are urged to use caution with outgoing mail.
