TYLER — The Buy Local First! Committee has announced they have completed the petition phase to legalize the sell of beer and wine in Tyler and Smith County Precinct 2.

BLF will turn in their signed petitions to the Tyler city clerk Thursday at 4 p.m. The organization has been gathering signatures since mid-April and had 60 days to collect 7,800 signatures from registered voters in the city of Tyler, and 6,700 in Precinct 2, which includes southwestern Tyler, Flint, and Bullard.

Earlier this month, another local group, Stand Strong for Tyler, filed paperwork with the Smith County Elections Office to oppose the BLF organization and the sale of alcohol in Tyler and Smith County Precinct 2.

If approved, residents of Tyler and Pct. 2 will vote on the referendum on November 6.
