Police investigating motorcyle incident

Thursday, September 23, 2010 - 12:05pm

On 09-22-2010, at approximately 9:46 p.m., a Tyler Police patrol officer observed a motorcycle disregard the stop sign at Amherst Drive and Donnybrook Avenue. The patrol officer attempted to effect a traffic stop on the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle fled from the officer, northbound on New Copeland Road.

The officer determined that the driver of the motorcycle was not going to pull over. The officer therefore discontinued his attempt at a traffic stop and did not engage in a pursuit.

Officers discovered that the suspect wrecked out at Barbara Street and New Copeland Road. The driver of an SUV pulled away from the stop sign on Barbara and was struck by the motorcycle. The motorcycle apparently disregarded the stop sign at Dulse Street.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. His injuries appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital via private vehicle, due to reported injuries. The name of the motorcycle driver is not being released at this time, pending notification of family members.

Tyler Police accident and criminal investigators are currently conducting an investigation.
