Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run in Smith County

UPDATE (10:00 am): The pedestrian involved in the hit and run accident died at a local hospital, according to Smith County DPS officials.

He has been identified as 23 year old Colton James Bain.

Another pedestrian was with Ban at the time of the accident, and was arrested for public intoxication.

He is being investigated in connection with recent vehicle break ins in the area.

The hit and run happened just after 6:00am on Tuesday at Hwy 110 North and Smith County Road 48, near Tyler.

The vehicle involved in the accident is believed to be a silver or gray Dodge Ram pickup truck, with possible front end damage.

The case is under investigation.

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle early Tuesday morning.

Officials with the Smith County Department of Public Safety tell Fox 51, the incident happened on Hwy 110 North, near Smith County Road 48, sometime before 7:00 am.

That's just north of Tyler.

The condition of the pedestrian is not known at this time.

Authorities report that the vehicle involved left the scene of the accident, and law enforcement is searching for the driver.

A description of the vehicle was not immediately available.
