Monstrous blue marlin sets Texas record

Anglers have a new benchmark to beat for the largest blue marlin caught in Texas.

According to Tami Noling, the tournament director for the BASTANTE-John Uhr Memorial Billfish Tournament, Team Legacy reeled in a marlin Friday weighing in at 972.7 pounds! Noling stated the old record was 876. The sea creature was measured to be 137.5 inches long. 

According to the event's Facebook page, the tournament is a mission to celebrate the life of Captain John Uhr and raise many for several charities : The American Cancer Society, Wounded Warrior Project, The Texas Maritime Museum and The Human Society. 

The event is held at Rockport harbor from July 10-13. More details surrounding the tournament can be found on their website.
