One killed in Longview wreck after SUV hydroplanes into truck

LONGVIEW — One person was killed in a two-vehicle wreck in Longview Friday evening.

It happened around 6:07 p.m., on the 2500 block of West Marshall Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles had crashed. Witnesses told police an SUV driven by Thomas Montgomery, of Gladewater, was traveling westbound on West Marshall Avenue, when his vehicle began to hydroplane and slid into the outside eastbound lane. Montgomery over-corrected and traveled into the outside westbound lane. The SUV then hit a truck driven by 26-year old Kevin Blake Gassett of Greenville.

Gassett and his passenger, 27 year-old Russell Wayne Nolan, were taken to a local hospital. Gassett later died from his injuries, but Nolan only suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery and his passenger, 34 year-old Charles Deshaun Simmons, were also taken taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
