Officials arrest theft suspect, find methamphetamine
A Longview man was arrested Wednesday morning after police said he attempted to steal a necklace from a convenient store and had drugs on him.
Dillon Wayne Scott, 17, remained jailed on $21,000 bond, charged with theft, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. Scott was arrested at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning in connection with a man stealing a necklace from the Texas Best Smokehouse in the 3300 block of South Eastman Road.
According to the arrest report, a store clerk saw Scott put a necklace in his pocket. When he was approached by authorities, Scott grabbed his back pocket and the police officer thought he was reaching for a gun.
Police said they reached into Scott's back pocket and recovered a pair of handcuffs. When they attempted to search his front pocket, Scott slapped his hand away. After a "brief struggle" Scott was arrested. During a search, police found 3.6 grams of methamphetamine. He also told police that he put the necklace back on the shelf when he saw the cop.
