NPD: Magazine sales scam in Nacogdoches

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 - 11:23am

Authorities are warning Nacogdoches residents of a credit card scam involving magazine sales.

The Nacogdoches Police Department has received several calls in reference to the scam.

According to NPD Sgt. Greg Sowell, several persons have lodged complaints about a door to door salesman posing to be selling magazine subscriptions.

The man allegedly tells people that he is selling magazines to send to soldiers deployed overseas. The salesman says that he cannot take cash or check as payment, but that a credit card must be used. Once he has the victims card number, unauthorized purchases are made.

“At this time, there are no magazine salespersons registered to operate within the city”, Sgt. Sowell said. “This suspect has been allowed inside several of the victim’s homes, and that is not a good idea”.

The fraudster has been described as a white male in his 20’s, clean cut and well spoken. He was last seen driving a small black SUV.

Anyone with information on this suspect should contact the Nacogdoches Police at 559-2607.
