Nacogdoches, TX — Plans are progressing for the four new city water wells, and repairs on other wells are on schedule, officials said. Yes, it has rained recently. Yes, the water levels have gone back up at the lake. Yes, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration climatologists have said the cause of our drought, La Nina, is gone.
No, we’re not out of the water yet, so to speak.
Several deficiencies in the city’s water system were realized during the height of the recent drought, including issues with the drought contingency plan and with a backup water supply, should Lake Nacogdoches fail to provide enough water.
As a result, the city is planning to use more groundwater, and is drilling four new wells and rehabilitating old wells that have not been in service.
