Carlsbad, NM (KTSM) — The missing teacher from Richardson, Texas was found dead near Loving, NM late Tuesday evening and her boyfriend has been charged with murder, according to New Mexico authorities.
Investigators found the body of 30-year-old Emily Lambert on a ranch on Potash Mines Rd. near Loving, NM late Tuesday evening. Police had been searching for Lambert since her boyfriend, Robert Earley, reported her missing Sunday morning.
NBC DFW reported that Lambert was a third grade teacher at O. Henry Elementary in Richardson ISD. The couple had been out of state visiting a friend when Lambert vanished Saturday.
According to KOB in Albuquerque, Police allege that Earley and Lambert got into an argument at a Carlsbad, NM bar Saturday night because another man was flirting with her. Their argument escalated into a physical fight when the pair returned to their hotel room at the Best Western Stevens Inn and Earley punched Lambert, knocking her unconscious. He then allegedly drove her to the ranch on Potash Mines Rd. in Loving, nearly 12 miles away, tied a rope to her neck and dragged her with his car.
Police questioned Earley for several hours Sunday and he eventually led police to Lambert's body. New Mexico State Medical Examiners will conduct an autopsy on Lambert's body to determine official cause of death.
Earley is being held in the Eddy County Detention Center on a $1 million dollar bond. New Mexico State Police are assisting the Carlsbad Police with the investigation.
Previous to the discovery of her body, Lambert's family had set up a Facebook page searching for her. The family released the following statement after the heartbreaking discovery:
