CNN — Michael Douglas' publicist is backing away from a report about what caused the actor's throat cancer.
"The Guardian" newspaper reports that in an interview Douglas revealed
His throat cancer was caused by having contracted the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) through oral sex.
His publicist tells CNN, Douglas never specifically pointed to HPV as the cause, but says the actor simply stated that it was one of many possible causes.
The 68-year-old was diagnosed with cancer in 2010.
He is now cancer-free after extensive chemotherapy.
